New & Noteworthy in Canmore

1 day 11 hours ago

For a mountain town that prides itself on outdoor adventure and rugged views, Canmore has a great foodie scene.

There are excellent patios, stellar happy hours, and local’s favourites everywhere you look. But there are also some relative newcomers on the Canmore dining scene who are looking to make waves with big flavours, great vibes, and food you’ll love. Here are three new and noteworthy restaurants in Canmore.

There are some great new places to eat in Canmore!

One98Eight

While this restaurant is relatively new in town, it’s not exactly new to the area. It began in the nearby hamlet of Dead Man’s Flats, where it found the success that brought it to Canmore. Ever aware of its rural roots, One98Eight derives its name from its original location: Highway 1, Exit 98 in Municipality District 8. Fitting for the Canmore move, 1988 was the year the Olympic Games put Canmore on the world stage.

What sets this restaurant apart is great food in a cozy atmosphere. The small restaurant only has 20 seats, but don’t let that deter you. The exclusivity means you’ll have a perfectly crafted meal made specifically for you by the talented team. Owner and head chef, Anand Kelkar, comes with an impressive resume that includes working at popular local restaurants and the high-end Fairmont hotels. Chef Kelkar blends mountain flavours with unique twists that will get your taste buds excited with an intentional and thoughtful menu.

Bro’Kin Yolk

The breakfast scene in Canmore got another heavy hitter last summer. Located in the Shops of Canmore, The Bro’Kin Yolk features fabulous breakfast and brunch options. Check out the stellar views through the massive windows that surround this second-storey restaurant. The Bro’Kin Yolk was founded by brothers Gil and Jeff Carlo, and it has the atmosphere of a homestyle kitchen where friends and family gather around great food. This is another restaurant with a fun name, and it breaks down into three parts: it was created by two brothers (Bro), they want everyone to feel like family (Kin), and their eggs are the foundation of their menu (Yolk) – the eggs come from Countryside Farms, from free-range chickens.

This restaurant specializes in breakfast fare, and they’re one of the best in town! They serve traditional breakfasts and Filipino-inspired dishes that will start your day off right. Some of our personal favourites are the Upstream Smoked-Salmon Benny, the Peach Cobbler French Toast, the Key Lime Pie Pancakes, and the Breakfast Poutine. Next time, we want to try Fili Breakfast Bowl and see what all the fuss is about!

Mumbai Local

Bringing big city flavours to downtown Canmore, Mumbai Local takes the multi-cultural flavours of Indian street food from the country’s financial capital (and the home of Bollywood), Mumbai, and combines them with local ingredients from Alberta farms. Serving only Halal meats, Mumbai Local celebrates all the flavours, including sweet, spicy, sour, pungent, savoury, and Umami.

This true taste of India meets the Canmore mountains. With their Main Street location, Mumbai Local has great views and a summer patio, right in the heart of the town. During the summer, this is part of the pedestrian-only street, giving this restaurant a fantastic atmosphere where you can sit back, soak in the views, and enjoy some amazing flavours that will take your tastebuds on a trip around the world.
