OPA! It’s time to celebrate Greek Cuisine in Canmore
There’s a new restaurant in town and it’s serving up delicious Mediterranean cuisine in a fast and friendly atmosphere. OPA! Of Greece recently opened in Canmore Gateway Shops along Bow Valley Trail to rave reviews. Their open house featured a $5 chicken souvlaki and Greek salad meal, and the place was packed with people looking to enjoy a tasty lunch on a hot Thursday afternoon. Even though this was the official grand opening, the restaurant had already started serving a week earlier, and rumours of this new, delicious spot were already circulating around town.
We were ahead of the curve with healthy food, freshly preparedMike MacDonald, head of OPA! marketing
The OPA! story began when Niko Tiginagas, made his way to Canada from Greece to start a new life. After working in restaurants, he knew he wanted to bring the traditional food and hospitality of Greece to his new home country, and OPA! was born. Using simple, quality ingredients in traditional dishes, the restaurant serves high-quality food in a counter-service style restaurant with excellent customer service.
“We were ahead of the curve with healthy food, freshly prepared,” says Mike MacDonald, head of OPA! marketing, “That’s what Niko brought to the table 25 years ago and it’s what makes us stay in people’s minds today. We’re known for our customer service, the personality, the bold flavours, and the traditional menu items.”
But the food speaks for itself. While the lunch special looked delicious, Mike suggested some of the items that make OPA! shine: the calamari meal with a Santorini salad, shrimp skewer, and a spanakopita. I’ve written about my love of seafood and how judgemental I can be of these dishes, especially in a landlocked province far from the water. But cooked and spiced to perfection, OPA! delivered on their seafood promise, and I was delighted with the lunch, even if I had to save half of it for dinner!
If you’re not sure what to get, their menu is posted online, along with nutrition information. The website also features online ordering, or ordering through the app for quick service.
So if you’re in town and looking for a quick but delicious lunch, stop by OPA! and experience the Mediterranean right here in the Rockies.
