Walking into the restaurant we were met with a bright and cheery interior. Designed for sharing, there are places for both small and large groups throughout the space, and the bar top seemed like a great place to hang out and make new friends. We cozied up in a booth and took in the surroundings, it was time for an excellent meal!
New Date Night
UNA Pizza + Wine is a popular pizza place in the city, and it’s now found a new home in the heart of Banff. Located right downtown, their friendly, approachable atmosphere and no-reservations policy make them an excellent stop for pretty much anything from a coffee and a chat to an evening with friends or even a date night. It was our first time visiting this new restaurant, but it certainly won’t be our last.
Pretty much everything at UNA Pizza is made in house. We started with some water, which comes with a choice of still or sparkling, and some house-made sodas: Raspberry Lime and Pineapple Ginger. These sodas come as a tonic with soda water to mix your perfect pop. They were delightful, and the sweetness complimented the pizzas very well.
All of the appetizers looked delicious, but we went for the fried garlic bread. These little bites were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, covered in parmesan, and just a wonderful mouthful to start off the meal. While UNA does non-pizza options on the menu, such as Wagyu Beef Carpaccio and Sautéed Garlic Prawns, we didn’t come to a place with “pizza + wine” in the title to get something that isn’t pizza.
The Prosciutto Pizza was an easy choice for us, and so was the Community Love Pizza. At UNA, the specialty pizza supports the community, and this time the charity was Make-A-Wish Canada. The pizza this time around was Butter Chicken, and the thought of mixing two of our favourite foods for a good cause was just too good to pass up.
The pizzas, of course, were amazing.
We were way too full for dessert, but the tantalizing Key Lime Pie was calling us, and we just couldn’t pass it up. If you’re ever stopping at UNA Pizza + Wine for coffee and dessert, or just to end your day with a sweet snack, get the Key Lime Pie. It was every bit as delicious as Mom would make, and it was the perfect topper to an otherwise amazing meal.
At the end of the day, we left UNA Pizza + Wine feeling refreshed and full. We thoroughly enjoyed the friendly atmosphere, the connection to community, and the excellent food. I think we found our new go-to Banff date night! If you’re in town looking for a bite to eat, I highly recommend UNA Pizza + Wine. And who knows, you may run into us while you’re there.
