Why Fiddle River is the Locals’ Choice

I was looking for a place to go for my birthday and Fiddle River was everyone’s recommendation.

We went on a busy weeknight. That was silly. They said we’d have to wait for a table, but when I told them it was my birthday (21 again) they set us up with a place to wait at the bar.

There was quiet music in the background; mouthwatering smells coming from the kitchen and cabin décor with modern landscape art on the wall. And from the patio, the views were breathtaking (even for someone like me who lives in the mountains full time).

Sue, the bar master, was amazing. Cheerful and organized, she said she knew I was a Caeser girl from looking at me, and made me one of the best I’ve ever had. While she worked, she told us more about Jasper.

Not long after we were seated our server came with warm rolls – yep, it was my birthday so I was eating carbs – and we ordered my favourite, baked brie. It came with cute crostinis with fresh strawberries, jam and walnuts on top. Delicious.

I ordered the ‘cherry bomb’ rack of lamb for my main; perfectly cooked with sweet cherry sauce, and seasonal vegetables. My boyfriend ordered the lightly battered fish and chips. The fries seemed to be house-cut, and were chunky and tasty.

For dessert – which I had no room for – we had something so chocolatey and decadent that I had to share. I was grateful the staff didn’t sing happy birthday to me, keeping it classy.

All in all, Fiddle River is definitely one of my new favourite places for food in Jasper. Reasonably priced and somewhere kids would be welcome and my parents would appreciate. No wonder it was so highly recommended.
