Lunch Special at Bamboo Garden
The two-course lunch at Banff’s Bamboo Garden is a great deal.
For my first course I ordered spring rolls. They arrived piping hot; the thin, crispy wrap was stuffed with sprouts, carrots, bok choy and other veggies. The sweet dipping sauce, lighter in colour and taste than traditional plum sauce, added a nice flavour.
My dining partner Glenn began his meal with wonton soup. The subtle broth did not overwhelm the soft wontons filled with finely cut vegetables.
Pad Thai, a signature Bamboo Garden dish, was my second course. I requested it medium hot (two chilis out of five); this provided plenty of heat. The firm, flat noodles were integrated with red and green peppers, onions, tender sliced beef, fried tofu and egg drop. A chopped peanut garnish and a wedge of lime adorned the side of the plate. This Pad Thai was tasty and satisfying, and I would order it again.
Glenn’s main was a vegetable stirfry topped with a generous slice of fried tofu. There were green onions, snap peas, bok choy, broccoli, zucchini, red peppers and mushrooms. The sesame black bean sauce had a “nice, slightly sweet flavour,” Glenn said.
On this particular day, Bamboo Garden owner Eagle Ling was cooking for his guests. It was obvious that our food was prepared to order using fresh, quality ingredients. Care was taken in the presentation.
Bamboo Garden Restaurant is hidden away on the second floor of Park Avenue Mall on Banff’s main street. We were seated at a window-side table with a great view of Mount Rundle and Centennial Plaza.
If you’re craving Asian food while visiting Banff, Bamboo Garden is a great choice.
