Clean Cuppa at SnowDome Coffee

SnowDome Coffee bar drew me into their space with a well-placed sign. “I wouldn’t do anything for a Klondike bar but I would do some sketchy stuff for some coffee.” Replace the word “coffee” with “tea” and this sign speaks to me on a whole other level. I’m in.

The downstairs coffee shop is in the local laundromat. I chatted with the barista about this location, and she laughed, explaining, “The owners had to update the washing machines years ago and with the new machines, they were required to have a staff on hand at all times. The staff needed something to do other than watch people do their laundry all day, so they put in the coffee bar.”

It was wildly successful. SnowDome has become so popular among Jasperites and tourists that it is opening a new, larger location in the vacant space above the laundromat. They are excited to present this new space to their loyal customers.

  • While I was chatting with the friendly barista, she was styling the foam on my London Fog. I didn’t pay too much attention to what she was doing as I was taking in the place. Row after row of coin clean laundry machines. Some patrons were doing loads on this mid-week afternoon, and others sitting around the internet café reading, using the wifi or otherwise chatting. There seemed to be a business meeting going on in one corner. Everyone was enjoying a warm drink or some baked goods.

“Here you go,” the barista smiled as she handed me my cup. Looking back at me from the top of my drink was a bear. The surprise of the smiling face in my tea made me laugh, and I instantly knew this was going to be my favourite coffee shop in Jasper.

Do I need to say the tea was excellent? Because it was excellent. After the care and quality of my experience up to this point, I knew it would be an excellent cuppa. I unfortunately didn’t have time to stay and enjoy my drink, but I sipped on my smiling bear face for a few minutes before I sadly covered it with a lid and headed out.

SnowDome Coffee Bar: I look forward to returning. And I can’t wait to see the new upstairs expansion.
