This pandemic sent everyone for a whirlwind of lockdowns and restrictions that, while necessary for the health of human species, definitely put a damper on how we spend our Friday nights. But with restrictions lifting, patios open and two half-Pfizered, hungry humans eager to look at something other than the four walls of our living room, we decided to go out to eat. And what better way to enjoy a long summer evening than pizza and beer on a patio!
Who's ready to enjoy beer and pizza on a patio again?
I had a lot of fun working on the Rocket Pie page for this Dining Guide, and I’d heard such great things about this place that I couldn’t wait to give it a try. So here’s the scoop, in case you don’t know: Rocket Pie was started by a father and son duo who are passionate about pizza and sharing that passion with the world. What better place to share good food than in the beautiful mountain town of Canmore? So they opened up their restaurant in The Shops of Canmore and the rest, so they say, is history.
Rocket Pie sells “Neapolitan style pizza with a New Your finish.” For those of you who aren’t pizza aficionados, that means these guys make really freaking good pizza! After carefully studying the menu, we decided to order the Prosciutto and Mortadella pizzas, although it was a tough choice with all of the delicious options available. We drank local beer and cider while relaxing on the sunny patio surrounded by mountain views. It doesn’t matter how long you live in a place, you never get sick of those views.
When our pizzas arrived, they looked perfect. There were plenty of toppings, they were dripping with cheese and that crust! While eating with someone who NEVER eats pizza crust, I wasn’t even a bit surprised to see every bit of crust devoured after each slice. It’s that good. This crust is homemade in a state-of-the-art stone fired oven every day, meaning it’s fresh and delicious with every slice. Try it with the complimentary chili oil. Rocket Pie claims it’s good on everything, and we were inclined to agree. It was great on both pizzas and that ever-so-delicious crust.
While beer and pizza are pretty much the perfect night, we couldn’t help but finish it off with a tiramisu. Because how can you turn down a tiramisu? This delicious treat came in a jar and was the perfect combination of coffee dipped lady fingers, mascarpone, candied pistachios and cocoa dust. If you’re looking for something to top off your evening but you’ve already eaten – come for the tiramisu.
The delicious dessert was the perfect topper to an already excellent evening of great food, great drinks, great views, and finally getting out of the house! If you’re craving a sense of normalcy and some excellent pizza, visit Rocket Pie in the Shops of Canmore.
