Bank on a Delicious Meal at Canmore’s Bankhead
It might be the homage to the area’s coal-mining past, or the contagious enthusiasm of the staff and ownership that makes a meal at Canmore’s The Bankhead a special experience. But most of all, it’s the simple, back-to-basics food prepared perfectly by a gifted chef.
With an impressive resume ranging from Dubai to Kananaskis, Chef Abraham Mannakuzhil has always had his own restaurant as the ultimate goal. Now that dream has come true as he and his partners opened the Bankhead in late 2020.
Once the Chef de Cuisine at the Rimrock’s Eden Dining room, Mannakuzhil says Bankhead’s menu is a reflection of Canada’s mosaic of culture as well as the area’s history. He says he even talked to retired miners to get a feel for what and how they ate while working in the coal mines. One result is the clever Ho Ho BELT with a black bun as a nod to dirty hands and beers at the Canmore Hotel (called the Ho’, back in the day.)
