Whitebark Café: Banff’s Best Coffee

    Taryn Hajnrych April 7, 2015

If the warm, heady aroma of handcrafted coffee doesn’t immediately overwhelm you as you enter the Whitebark, then be prepared for their menu of home-baked, gluten-friendly and down-right-decadent snacks to leave you floored and wondering: am I really in a coffee shop?

No, it’s quite simply not your everyday coffee shop – it is a treat for the senses. The Whitebark is more than just coffee; it’s about indulgence and slowing life down to relax a little. Oven baked quiches with farm fresh vegetables, rich, moist muffins bursting with seasonal fruit and a selection of diet friendly items that cater to a variety of preferences makes this café a must-see when in Banff.

Whether you choose to pull up a bar stool to their large picture or window or you prefer a seat on their sun drenched patio in the summer months, a visit to the Whitebark shouldn’t be rushed. Drink in the views, sink into the sounds of indolent chit chat and the gentle frothing of milk in the background, and let the soul soothing begin.

My go-to? A large Americano, add two shots please. The rich Espresso Imara beans are roasted to a deep complexity with pleasing hints of caramel and without fail, my daily coffee is delivered to me with a luxurious and thick crema atop, as any good shop would deliver. Pair it with a homemade granola bar to go and it’s the best start to a day you could ask for!

Grab a book or pick up a local magazine and it won’t be long before you finding yourself slipping into a state of utter relaxation.
